A veneer is a thin ceramic or composite shell that fits over the visible part of a tooth to improve the tooth's appearance. For teeth that are discolored or slightly uneven, a veneer procedure offers a quick and relatively simple solution. A veneer can add a bit of strength or structure, but it is primarily a cosmetic improvement.
Veneers can be applied to a single tooth, several teeth or all the teeth in the smile line. Preparing a tooth to accept a veneer requires removing a bit of the tooth surface. The veneer is then cemented in place.
